The Knicks are set to hire Saint Joseph’s head coach Billy Lange as an assistant coach, ESPN”s Pete Thamel reported on Wednesday.
Lange – who has coached Saint Joseph’s since 2019, is a legend in the greater Philadelphia area and spent six seasons as an assistant with the Philadelphia 76ers. Prior to his time in Philadelphia, he was the Navy head coach for seven seasons, from 2004-2011.
He was 81-104 during his six seasons at Saint Joseph’s, and 213-237 all-time including his career at Navy. Lange was frequently rumored to be on the hot seat, due to some teams that underperformed in the past few years with NBA talent on its roster.
This moves comes just two months after the Knicks announced the hiring of head coach Mike Brown on July 7.
With the college basketball season fast approaching, Saint Joseph’s announced it will hire former Cornell, Boston College and Penn head coach Steve Donahue to a multi-year contract as its next head coach.
With Donahue newly in charge in Philadelphia, the Hawks are entering the 2025-26 season searching for their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2016.
