Expectations continue to change for Rick Pitino’s team as ESPN’s latest Bracketology report revealed on Tuesday.
ESPN’s Joe Lunardi said the Red Storm are “falling fast” in his Bracketology heading into Tuesday night’s game against Butler.
Meantime, Mike DeCourcy of Fox Sports currently has St. John’s as a 10 seed.
Big East seeds per my man @tsnmike
1-UConn
5-Villanova
8-Seton Hall
10-St. John’s https://t.co/yf6suBCOSx— Adam Zagoria (@AdamZagoria) January 6, 2026
The No. 5 preseason team in the country suffered their first loss in BIG EAST play on Saturday against Providence, making them 2-1 in conference play to begin the year.
Much of St. John’s struggles this season have come as a result of a hole at the point guard position. The Johnnies entered the season with one of the highest ranking transfer portal classes in the country but failed to bring in a point guard to run the offense under Pitino.
“That’s our fault as a staff for not bringing in a full time point guard,” Pitino told reporters last month after his team lost to Kentucky.
St. John’s is still expected to be a tournament team come March, but it is certainly not the surefire bid that many thought the program would be entering the season.
