Three-star class of 2026 guard Boden Williams chats family basketball ties, updates recruitment

BY ALEJANDRO LOPEZ & SAM LANCE

Being raised by people who played basketball at a high level can set a lot of expectations for a young hooper. But for three-star class of 2026 guard Boden Williams, those expectations are just motivation to continue to improve.

“My mom played at Oklahoma State,” Williams said. “She played basketball there and my dad played at Tulsa University for Coach [Bill] Self. My sister just graduated from Oklahoma State, playing basketball there. I got an older brother who doesn’t play any sports, and I have a little sister who plays basketball. So we are definitely a basketball family for sure.”

As Williams looks to prepare to reach the next level, the way his parents did before him, he is looking to make the most of his summer season with Team Mokan at the Nike EYBL Circuit.

“It’s going pretty good, you know we got a really good group,” he said. “We play the right way, and you know I’m just excited to be here. It’s a great group of guys. We get along really well on the court. So just very excited just to be here.

The 6-foot-2 guard out of Owasso (OK) averaged 2.9 points, 0.8 assists and 1.2 rebounds per game for Team Mokan in a bench role this summer.

“I try to be a point guard,” Williams said about his game. “For this team, I can play the one and the two, bring the ball up the court and make open shots, play defense. Just try to be the guy that makes winning plays and does whatever it takes for his team to win. “

As for his college recruitment, Williams has picked up offers from Oral Roberts, SIUE and Omaha. Other schools interested in Williams include Loyola Chicago, Belmont and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. He has taken a visit to Oral Roberts and plans to take more visits in the fall.

Here is what Williams had to say about these schools thus far:

Oral Roberts: “It’s probably the one that’s most interested for sure. I’m talking to the head coach very often, coach [Kory] Barnett. He’s a really good faith driven guy and that means a lot to me. All of them — to have all of them at your games and just the interest they show and just how much they care definitely means a lot and stands out for sure.”

SIUE: “I really like them. Coach Brian Barone and [Ryan] Hellenthal, they have been reaching out quite a bit. It’s just definitely one of the first ones to offer me, so it definitely means a lot to have them believe in me and take a chance on me when I didn’t really have anything. So I’m very thankful for them as well.”

Omaha: “Coach [Chris] Crutchfield. They reach out a little bit too. They were the second one to offer me, so just you know, once again thankful that they reached out and took a chance on me when I didn’t really have anything.”

Loyola Chicago: “Coach Chris Huey, he reaches out quite a bit too. They definitely play a great style of basketball that I really enjoy watching. They make the tournament, do very well. And they’re conference, so yeah. I really like that school as well.”

Belmont: “I really like the way they play. They play fast, shoot a lot of threes. Definitely fits my style. They play the right way. They got a really good team. They’ll make it to the tournament, upset some people, so I like them.”

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi: “I don’t know too much about them. I know a couple guys from Oklahoma have been there. I know they are down there on the beach, but I know they made it to the tournament last year as well. So all really good programs that make it to the tournament play the right way. So it’s just very cool to very thankful and blessed to have these interests and offers for sure.”

Once Williams begins to take his visits, he hopes to find a school that plays a system that best suits his playstyle. The fit will be an important factor. He also wants coaches who can appreciate the player he is instead of trying to make him someone he isn’t.

Williams is the No. 28 combo guard in the 2026 class, according to 247Sports. Off the court, he enjoys reading the Bible, playing video games and hanging out with his girlfriend.
