Top-40 ’27 Missouri commit Scottie Adkinson: ‘They’re getting a competitor’

Class of 2027 Missouri commit Scottie Adkinson made a seemingly easy to decision to stay home and commit to his dream school earlier this month, a few months before entering his junior year of high school. Adkinson, the 6-foot-2 point guard from Webster Groves (MO) and the Mokan Elite Nike EYBL AAU program, collected a handful of Division I offers before ultimately committing to Missouri.

With head coach Dennis Gates having just finished another successful season in Columbia, Adkinson had praise for his future had coach and his accomplishments during his short time at Missouri. He also added some insight about his commitment to the Tigers.

“I wanted to be a stay-home kid ,and I love coach Gates and what he’s done,” Adkinson told ZAGSBLOG. “His player development is amazing and he’s always shown love to me, so the best thing I can do is stay home.”

Adkinson also told ZAGSBLOG that he is using all the advice he can from his future coaching staff, preparing himself both physically and mentally for playing basketball at the next level.

“Get stronger for when I get on campus and get ready to make an impact instantly,” he said. “Just getting stronger and being ready to play at the next level.”

One trait about Adkinson that will be noticed quickly by Missouri fans is his unrelenting will to win and compete.

“They’re getting a competitor,” he said. “I love to have fun and just compete at the end of the day. I think it’s best to be in my home state with coach Gates and staff. It’s been amazing. I can’t wait until the day I step on campus and just have fun.”

Adkinson said he’s planning on visiting campus again for some games this winter. He’s looking forward to building more bonds with others in the program, and he’s also recruiting some other prospects. Specifically, Adkinson named 2027 four-star guard Chase Branham.

The guard is ranked as a four-star and the No. 37 overall recruit in the class of 2027. So far at Peach Jam, Adkinson is averaging 17.0 points, 2.3 rebounds 4.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game. He’s one of the best scorers in his class and excels as a downhill driver.
