The Terps are returning the No. 1 scoring offense in the country.
The NCAA announced that Maryland women’s basketball stands at No. 4 in the preseason rankings.
The Terps finished last season at No. 7 in the AP Top 25 poll and are returning all five of its starters in guards Ashley Owusu, Diamond Miller, Katie Benzan as well as forwards Chloe Bibby and Mimi Collins. The Terps also return key forwards Faith Masonius and Angel Reese.
Maryland finished the 2020-21 season with the top scoring offense in the country averaging 90.8 points per game. The Terps were a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament and were upset by No. 6 seed Texas in the Sweet 16.
The Terps finished the season with a 26-3 record, losing to just one Big Ten opponent in Ohio State.
Maryland kicks off its 2021-22 campaign at home against Longwood. The Terps play four other nonconference games before facing Baylor, N.C. State and Stanford consecutively.
In the preseason poll, the Terps were placed behind the likes of South Carolina, UConn and Stanford. Maryland will play both Stanford (Nov. 27) and South Carolina (Dec. 12) this season. The Terps will also play nonconference opponents N.C. State (Nov. 25) and Baylor (Nov. 21), teams that were listed behind Maryland in the poll. Two Big Ten teams that Maryland will play this season, Iowa and Indiana, were also put in the top 10 as well.
