
This is the Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.
Maryland women’s tennis concluded the 2021 ITA Atlantic Super Regionals this past Monday, per a release. The Terps had a few strong performances in singles, as well as solid runs in the doubles draw.
Partners Mary Brumfield and Selma Cadar defeated West Virginia’s Camilla Bossi and Ting-Pei Chang, 8-3, to give the Terps a win to start the tournament. Soon after in doubles play, Pair Jojo Bach and Marta Perez Mur took down Penn State’s Yvonna Zuffova and Alina Lebedeva in the fashion of an 8-4 victory.
Additionally, on the first day of singles play, Perez Mur earned a victory and a spot in the Round of 16 with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Avantika Willy of Georgetown. Then, Bach added another to the win column for Maryland, defeating No. 120-ranked Esther Lovato of Liberty, 6-4, 6-2. Then in the Round of 16, Bach was defeated by the No. 97-ranked Mila Saric of William & Mary 3-6, 7-5.
In the doubles quarterfinals, Maryland’s Perez Mur and Bach won over the No. 2 seed and No. 4 Virginia duo of Natasha Subhash and Sofia Munera 8-7 (6). In the semis, though, the Terps’ doubles team put up a battle against the pair of Collard and Hibah Shaikh, however, they eventually fell 3-6, 4-6.

Maryland softball had to cancel its game against Virginia due to the bad weather in the area and the program won’t play again until the spring.
