This is the Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.

Incoming Maryland men’s basketball freshman Guillermo Del Pino has officially broken out.

The 6-foot-5 Spanish native finished his star-studded run at the FIBA U18 Eurobasket with 23 points on 50% shooting and three assists in the championship game against France. After playing a pivotal role for Spain throughout the tournament, it was Del Pino who was trusted with the game on the line.

The new Terp scored the final nine points of the game for Spain, all within the final 30 seconds, as the Spanish erased the 11-point lead France took into the fourth quarter.

Del Pino finished the tournament averaging 11.6 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 52/28/88 across 21 minutes per game. The guard has been dominant in Eurobasket play — Del Pino was named the MVP of the U16 tournament in 2023, where he led Spain

While billed as a top international prospect throughout his career, Del Pino was a prime candidate to redshirt in 2025-26. The Terps possess a deep group of guards, and at just 183 pounds, the Spaniard likely needs to bulk up to be most effective in America. However, Del Pino may have played himself into consideration for a role this season. With his national team duties over, Maryland head coach Buzz Williams will soon get the chance to appraise him in person.
