With weather and road conditions improving, the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) will expand local bus service beginning Tuesday.
All CityLink routes and all LocalLink bus routes will resume service, along with Express Bus Route 163, which serves Tradepoint Atlantic. All other express bus routes will remain suspended, MTA officials said Monday night. Due to the forecast, which calls for temperatures to remain below freezing until next week, riders are asked to dress warmly.
MTA officials said some routes may continue to operate with detours if neighborhood streets remain difficult to navigate because of lingering snow and ice, narrowed roadways, or safety and accessibility concerns. They also said buses may take longer to make it through a route, due to road conditions.
Service levels could also be affected by employee availability, the agency said. MTA officials said they will continue to monitor conditions and adjust service as roads improve.
To protect riders and operators and allow crews to focus on clearing major roads, the MTA limited service primarily to core routes after the storm passed through. Local bus operations were reduced, with only some CityLink and LocalLink routes running, and most express bus routes were suspended altogether. Officials said lingering snow and ice, narrowed streets and safety and accessibility concerns made it difficult for buses to safely navigate many neighborhood roads on Monday.
