Baltimore Ravens 53-Man Roster Features Surprising Decisions

August 27, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

The Baltimore Ravens have officially released their 53-man roster, and some of the decisions have taken fans by surprise. From unexpected cuts to underdog players earning a roster spot, these decisions highlight just how talented Baltimore’s squad is.

Unexpected Names That Made the Final Roster

Undrafted Rookies

Three undrafted rookies secured a spot on the 53-man roster: inside linebacker Jay Higgins, cornerback Keyon Martin, and safety Reuben Lowery. While it is not surprising that the Ravens continued their long-standing tradition of selecting an undrafted rookie to the 53-man roster, their decision to add three to an already stacked defense is certainly turning heads.

With that being said, all three made plays when it counted. Higgins intercepted a pass in the preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts, Lowery managed to snag an interception in the second preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys, and Martin recorded a pick-six against the Washington Commanders. Their performances proved that they earned their spots on merit, not just by filling roster gaps.

Outside linebacker David Ojabo is an incredibly promising talent; however, injuries have been a recurring problem, limiting him to just 18 regular-season games in three years. After securing a roster spot due to an excellent preseason, fans are hoping Ojabo can head into the upcoming regular season with a clean bill of health, allowing him to make an impact on the field.

Surprising Cuts

Jalyn Armour-Davis

Jalyn Armour-Davis has struggled constantly with injuries throughout his NFL career. However, after his healthiest training camp yet, most people considered him a lock for a spot on the 53-man roster. Still, in a surprising move, the Ravens decided to part ways with Armour-Davis, opting instead for younger players who had excellent training camp performances, such as TJ Tampa and Keyon Martin.

Armour-Davis has all the makings of a starting cornerback in the NFL, so it won’t be long before he finds a new team, and if he can stay healthy, whoever picks him up will have a real gem on their hands.

Beau Brade

Beau Brade is a safety that entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie in 2024 and made the roster after impressing both coaches and fans with his talent. Unfortunately, the Maryland native was unable to secure a roster spot this year after getting beaten out by Reuben Lowery, who offers versatility across the secondary.

Although he wasn’t able to make the roster this year, Brade’s talent and potential suggest he could see opportunities elsewhere, or return to the team in the future should injuries occur.

Heading Into the Regular Season

After coming up short in the playoffs in recent years, the Ravens head into the upcoming regular season with arguably one of the league’s most stacked rosters. Baltimore has bolstered almost every aspect of the team by combining proven stars with up-and-coming talent. With the amount of skill throughout the roster, fans will be excited to see what their team can accomplish in the 2025 season.
