Boxer Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis arrested after two-week search

January 29, 2026 by The Baltimore Sun

Miami Gardens Police arrested professional boxer and Baltimore native Gervonta “Tank” Davis on Wednesday night on charges of battery, false imprisonment and attempted kidnapping, department officials said.

In a statement on their social media, the department said Davis, 31, was taken into custody without incident by the Miami Gardens Special Investigations Section and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force as he left a retail store in the Miami Design District.

“The Miami Gardens Police Department remains committed to protecting victims, holding offenders accountable, and ensuring the safety of our community,” the department said in their statement.

The arrest came about two weeks after a warrant was issued in connection with an incident reported Oct. 27, 2025, at a Miami Gardens business.

According to police, a woman reported that Davis attacked her around 4 a.m. at the nightclub where she works. The woman told investigators she and Davis had previously been in a relationship and said Davis entered a back room of the club, grabbed her by the back of the head and throat, and attempted to walk her toward the building’s garage.

Around the same time as the warrant was issued for his arrest, the World Boxing Association designated Davis as a “champion in recess.” The designation of “champion in recess” is typically reserved for boxers who are unable to defend their titles because of injury or inactivity. At the same time, it allows fighters in Davis’ position to retain their status and be eligible to compete for the crown upon their return.

Davis, 30-0-1 with 28 knockouts, has held the WBA lightweight title since 2023 after previously carrying the WBA “Regular” version from 2019 to 2023. He announced plans to retire at the end of 2025.

Since 2017, Davis has faced multiple arrests in Maryland, Virginia and Florida, though several cases were later dismissed. He was removed from a scheduled exhibition bout against social media personality Jake Paul, set for Nov. 14 at the Kaseya Center in Miami.
