After a rough Week 1 performance, the Philadelphia Eagles could trade safety Sydney Brown at some point during the 2025 regular season. According to a source, one of the other safeties on the depth chart, Andrew Mukuba, has been getting more snaps than Brown, which is likely signaling bad news for the former 2023 draft pick. The Eagles may have gotten a huge victory over Dallas, but not so much for Brown, who had high expectations entering the 2025 campaign. Brown was the subject of trade rumors this past offseason, and it’s trending towards that point if the team doesn’t use him.
After appearing in 14 games during his rookie season, recording 45 tackles, three passes defensed and a forced fumble, he hasn’t been the same after suffering a torn ACL, which ended his season that year. Brown only got to play in 11 games last year while playing only 87 total snaps, and it looks like it will be reduced if Mukuba continues to show that he can be a full-time versatile safety for this unit. The writing on the wall is already for Brown’s role since the Eagles got Mukuba, but Brown was hoping that he had some type of chance to prove himself. While Mukuba could become a key contributor to Vic Fangio’s defense, it will be interesting to see what the Eagles will do with Brown if he doesn’t get enough playing time and is more of a depth guy.

Next Possible Teams
Baltimore Ravens
With Ar’Darius Washington nursing an injury, the Baltimore Ravens have yet to find a replacement. The team is putting its faith in the 2025 draft pick, Malaki Starks, but how long will that last? It’s not a good idea in a sense to put so much pressure on a rookie who is still adjusting to the league, given the outlook of their depth. There is a lot of hype surrounding Starks, so maybe he can break out this upcoming season.
Either way, he needs better support other than Kyle Hamilton in the boundary zone. Sydney Brown may have been hurt for the past year, but he could easily find his role in one of the best pass-secondaries in the league.
Carolina Panthers
Meanwhile, the Carolina Panthers finally upgraded their defensive pass secondary this past offseason. With Tre’Von Moehrig stepping into a huge role after signing a contract with the team, they need to find another viable starter to complement him. Nick Scott isn’t the most explosive guy that’s going to replicate what Moehrig can do, so Brown is easily the better athlete in this situation.
The Panthers aren’t contenders yet by any means, but if it means a bigger role for Brown, then he might be open to joining the team.
New England Patriots
After shockingly releasing Jabrill Peppers, the New England Patriots should be in the market for a replacement. While Kyle Dugger is on the trade block, they can’t really afford to lose anyone else. If it means getting someone like Brown to fill the hole, then they should target him if he becomes available.
