Despite signing the free agent this offseason, the Atlanta Falcons have cut defensive tackle Morgan Fox in a surprise twist in moves. According to a report, the release was a shocker since the Falcons took a chance on him this offseason after releasing long-time veteran Grady Jarrett. However, it doesn’t look like that will happen anymore, and it’s a head scratcher given that the Falcons don’t have a ton of depth along the defensive line. Even beyond David Onyemata, the team lacks experience on the line between Ruke Orhorhoro and Brandon Dorlus, so it shouldn’t be too long before Fox signs with a new team before the beginning of the 2025 campaign.
Originally selected as an undrafted rookie in 2016, the former CSU Pueblo product began his career with the Los
Angeles Rams before having one of his best seasons with the Chargers. Due to partial credit to former teammate Poona Ford, Fox was on fire and helping open up the gaps for the Chargers’ defense to explode under head coach Jim Harbaugh. After recording a career-high of 38 tackles and 6.5 sacks in 2022 to start his tenure with the Chargers, it should not be a surprise for him to intrigue some teams. He won’t sign a long-term deal anymore since he’s a little older, but these four teams should be able to roll the dice on him.

Potential Destinations
Baltimore Ravens
After losing Michael Pierce to retirement this offseason, the Baltimore Ravens haven’t done much to upgrade the trenches. They signed journeyman John Jenkins, but given his age and his recent production, it’s not the ideal lineman that you would want. Between Nnamdi Madubuike, Travis Jones and Broderick Washington, there is room for improvement. Morgan Fox is a journeyman himself, but he could find a role as part of this defense in a rotational role for a team that always finds itself to be a contender.
Arizona Cardinals
After acquiring both Josh Sweat and Calais Campbell, the Arizona Cardinals are shaping up to have one of the best defensive threats in the league. As much as the talk has been surrounding Kyler Murray and his offense that is coming together, no one should sleep on their defense. With that, Fox could be the icing on the cake for this defensive line, as LJ Collier has been the subject of trade rumors this offseason.
Cincinnati Bengals
Meanwhile, the Cincinnati Bengals had one of the worst defenses last year, ranking at the bottom in terms of expected points added. It will, unfortunately, probably get worse before it gets any better, since stalwart Trey Hendrickson is finding a way out of Cincinnati. BJ Hill might be somewhat capable of keeping this line intact, but it takes more than one athlete. The Bengals are on a budget after giving Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase massive deals, so they could dish out a cheap one-year friendly contract to Fox to provide some potential firepower to the defense.
Los Angeles Chargers
Why not? A return makes a lot of sense for the Los Angeles Chargers. After losing Poona Ford this offseason, what the team could do for depth is to get Fox back. He is familiar with Jim Harbaugh’s style of winning football games in the trenches, and this signing wouldn’t be a shocker.
