After a disastrous back-to-back campaign with the Minnesota Vikings, the team could put running back Ty Chandler on the trade block during the NFL preseason. According to Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, he believes the Vikings should trade Chandler since they have a ton of value at the position already between Aaron Jones and trading for Jordan Mason this offseason. This doesn’t leave a clear future for Chandler, who is entering the final year of his contract, so it would be smart to make him available to get some late draft pick compensation in return while he’s still healthy. Originally selected in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former North Carolina product won’t garner the best trade capital or cap space, but he should join a team that needs some new life in the backfield unit.
After serving as the second-string running back in the Vikings’ offense behind Alexander Mattison in 2023, he hasn’t been able to record the most explosive numbers for what the team is looking for. This doesn’t mean that Chandler can’t be spectacular, but a “bust” might be the correct thing to label him, which isn’t a bad thing, and it’s a chance for him to start new elsewhere. Chandler could join a team before the 2025 campaign to play out his final rookie year with these four potential suitors.

Potential Destinations
Dallas Cowboys
Unfortunately, 2025 draft pick Jaydon Blue went down with an injury during practice, so this could mean bad news for the Cowboys’ running back, which is already bleak. Between Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, it’s hard to have confidence in this run game, so they need some type of new spark to ignite this group. Chandler might not be the most explosive option, but he could bring some life to the group.
Los Angeles Chargers
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Chargers will most likely be running the football because of Jim Harbaugh, but even having two capable running backs in Omarion Hampton and Najee Harris, they can’t afford to let them run out of gas. It’s better to either trade or sign another option to avoid that from happening. Chandler won’t get the start, but he could be a reliable resource to keep the running back group afloat.
Baltimore Ravens
However, the Baltimore Ravens have one of the best running backs in Derrick Henry, but he is getting older and two years out from his prime days. Keaton Mitchell has yet to show he could take over as the No. 1 running back for this group one day, while Justice Hill is more of a situational backfield piece. Chandler might not last that long, but it should buy the Ravens some time to find their next talent once Henry eventually retires.
New Orleans Saints
Other than Alvin Kamara, the New Orleans Saints have one of the worst running back groups in the league. Kendre Miller and Cam Akers aren’t your typical backups that you can’t fully trust to hold this team together, so they’re better off trading for a running back. Chandler doesn’t need to make a huge impact, but he able to stay healthy for the right moments.
