After an agreement with Christian Watson on an extension, the Green Bay Packers could look to depart from wide receiver Romeo Doubs. According to the breaking news, the Packers are investing in Watson for at least one more year after the 2025 campaign in a shocking twist. It seems like the team sees a future in Watson even though he’s still recovering from his torn ACL injury from last year. This feels like a sudden move since it was more likely that Doubs would receive some type of extension before Watson, so this could turn into the latest, biggest storyline for the Packers since the Micah Parsons trade.
Watson and Doubs were drafted together in the 2022 NFL Draft, and it looks like they see Watson more in a prominent role when he returns. However, the Packers can’t keep both as Doubs is in his final season as a Packer and is set to become a free agent next offseason. After drafting Savion Williams and Matthew Golden in last year’s draft and grabbing receivers like Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks during the 2023 offseason, it seems like it was always going to come down between Watson and Doubs. Originally selected in the fourth round, the former Nevada product has become a superior player over Watson, so is there a trade on the way?
This is something to watch as the season progresses, but these three teams could contact the Packers about the availability of Doubs.

Potential Trade Fits
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs are searching for a new wide receiver this week with Xavier Worthy nursing an injury and Rashee Rice serving a suspension. They must figure out what they want their offense to look like, and Doubs could be a solid temporary fit while they wait for Worthy to get healthy again. While they’re looking into getting Tyreek Hill back in Kansas City, it might be too costly for this team’s future.
Doubs serves as a safeguard for this passing game between Marquise Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster. They won’t get the same speed as they do from Rice or Worthy, but Mahomes would be getting a receiver who is solid in length and can catch the deeper balls.
Baltimore Ravens
Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens have one of the most explosive receivers after DeAndre Hopkins signed with them. The one-handed touchdown catch is evidence that he fits this offense as a receiver who has a similar length to Doubs. With Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman being much smaller, but speedy, they could trade for Doubs to serve and share the WR3 with Hopkins to give Lamar Jackson plenty of options with different attributes.
Los Angeles Chargers
However, the Los Angeles Chargers have two consistent receivers in Ladd McConkey and Keenan Allen, but there is room for improvement here. Quentin Johnston finally had the chance to prove he could be consistent, but it’s something to still monitor. With KeAndre Lambert-Smith and Tre Harris in the mix, they should give Doubs a chance to give Justin Herbert another big-bodied wide receiver who can catch the balls in a vertical route.
