After suffering an injury during camp, the Pittsburgh Steelers might cut draft bust cornerback Cory Trice before the 2025 regular season. According to a report, one source thinks he might not make the 53-man roster, and this could likely be his last preseason with the team. Originally selected in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the former Purdue product spent his entire rookie year recovering from a torn ACL before finally getting an opportunity to play this past year. Trice hasn’t been able to stay healthy or make use of his time on the field, so he could be on the chopping block if he endures another season-ending injury.
However, the bad news is that the team has already lost Minkah Fitzpatrick, and they don’t have a ton of depth behind new free agent signee Darius Slay and Joey Porter. It might look easy to move on from Trice since he’s injury-prone, but this means they will need to search for a replacement sooner rather than later. However, they do have Jalen Ramsey, whom they traded for earlier this offseason, so that means bad news for Trice. The cornerback might have to wait until later to sign with a team, but he could join these contenders on a rotational basis.

Breaking: Steelers Could Cut Draft Bust Cory Trice; 4 Possible Destinations
Potential Fits
Dallas Cowboys
Despite trading for Kaiir Elam this offseason, the Dallas Cowboys have one of the worst secondary units in the league. Between DaRon Bland and Trevon Diggs, these two were supposed to be the long-term starts, but due to injuries and unproductivity, it’s anyone’s job up for grabs this upcoming 2025 regular season. Trice might not start in this pass secondary, but the team signing Robert Rochell is proof that the Cowboys love to invest in low-risk, budget-friendly athletes.
Baltimore Ravens
Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens are probably the only NFL team that loves to have a ton of depth at the cornerback position. After signing Chidobe Awuzie and Jaire Alexander this offseason, they have plenty of talent behind 2024 draft pick Nate Wiggins and veteran Marlon Humphrey to work with. The Steelers won’t trade to Baltimore, but Trice could reignite his career again behind one of the best secondary talents.
Los Angeles Chargers
However, the Los Angeles Chargers are a team that isn’t far from making a deep run in the playoffs. Since they signed Benjamin St-Juste and Donte Jackson this offseason to replace Kristian Fulton, they need efficient help for 2024 draft pick Cam Hart. Trice won’t do much, but it gives Hart some breathing room to share the snaps.
Carolina Panthers
Nobody should sleep on the Carolina Panthers this upcoming season, as they’ve been able to finally repair the defense after rebuilding the offense for quarterback Bryce Young. Michael Jackson and Jaycee Horn are coming back for another season since they signed new contracts, and it looks bittersweet since they invested in Tre’Von Moehrig this offseason. Trice might be the solution that the Panthers are looking for, but they’re in dire need of depth in the cornerback position, and he could be a viable fit to fill the hole.
