For 20 of the past 21 years, the Baltimore Ravens have entered week one with at least one undrafted rookie on the roster. From Bart Scott to Zach Orr, Baltimore has proved that it can find hidden gems that other teams overlook.
Now, as the Ravens head into the 2025 season, will we see an undrafted rookie make the 53-man roster?
Undrafted Rookies Making Their Case
Several of this year’s undrafted players have impressed coaches and fans during their time with the Ravens, including:
Reuben Lowery III
After going undrafted in this year’s draft, Reuben Lowery III has impressed coaches repeatedly during his time at training camp. Lowery is a versatile defensive back that has a very real chance to make the 53-man roster. During the game against the Dallas Cowboys, Lowery snagged an interception that impressed everyone, including John Harbaugh.
“Reuben, he’s around the ball, he’s been doing that the whole camp … to get the pick in the endzone right away and play the ball, that was not an easy catch, and he goes back and makes that play, he’s showed up numerous times,” Harbaugh said.
Keyon Martin

Keyon Martin, another undrafted defensive back, has been receiving praise for his performances during training camp. Martin has been able to translate his strong camp performances into impressive play during games, recording a safety by sacking Cowboys quarterback Joe Milton.
Like Lowery, Martin also received high praise from Harbaugh.
“He’s the next guy that had huge plays out there, covered well … and he’s had that kind of camp pretty much all the way through,” Harbaugh said.
Breaking into a stacked Ravens secondary that has recently added star cornerback Jaire Alexander will prove difficult for both Lowery and Martin, but both players have shown that they won’t back down from the challenge.
Jay Higgins
Dallas was unable to get any rhythm going throughout the game due to the front seven constantly applying pressure to the opposition’s quarterbacks. While the entire front seven impressed throughout the game, undrafted rookie Jay Higgins deserves an individual shoutout. After an interception last week against the Indianapolis Colts, he was all over the field and forced a fumble this week against Dallas. He has consistently been one of the most notable players on the field throughout the preseason.
As a unit, Baltimore’s defense kept the Cowboys’ offense uncomfortable all night, recording four sacks, an interception, a forced fumble, and a safety. The numbers highlight just how much opportunity the young players created for themselves.
Battle for a roster spot
With established veterans holding down starting roles, the real fight is for depth. Lowery and Martin are pushing to crack one of the league’s most competitive secondaries, while Higgins is battling in a crowded linebacker room.
The next preseason game against the Washington Commanders will be crucial for Lowery, Martin, and Higgins to prove that they can be impact players during the regular season. The Ravens’ tradition of at least one undrafted rookie making the roster is on the line once again, and this year’s candidates are making it a story to keep your eye on.
