“Chatter Is Out There” – Ravens John Harbaugh Could Switch Teams With Loss

January 2, 2026 by Last Word On Pro Football

The Baltimore Ravens entered the 2025 season with Super Bowl aspirations, but head coach John Harbaugh and company are just one loss away from spending the postseason on the couch. The Ravens have not appeared in a Super Bowl since 2012 despite having an elite quarterback in Lamar Jackson and one of the league’s most talented rosters. The NFL is a results-based business, and there are some whispers that the Ravens could move on from Harbaugh if the team misses the playoffs.

Coaching trades are rare, but according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano, “the chatter is out there” that John Harbaugh could be available for the right price. While Graziano notes that “the Ravens are not the type of organization to make compulsive decisions based on fan discontent” and implied Baltimore wouldn’t fire him with three years remaining on his contract, he didn’t rule out a trade.

Ravens, John Harbaugh Could Part Ways With Week 18 Loss

Fowler added that “Harbaugh and owner Steve Bisciotti could have big-picture talks about the future at some point.” If these talks go south, don’t be surprised if the Ravens start shopping John Harbaugh. While Baltimore has underperformed in the playoffs, Harbaugh remains one of the league’s better coaches, and a change of scenery could bring out the best of him, much like how Andy Reid had his best years with the Kansas City Chiefs. The following three teams will likely be in the market for a new head coach, and Harbaugh would probably be at the top of their list.

3. Arizona Cardinals

The jury is out on whether or not the Arizona Cardinals will fire head coach Jonathan Gannon, but it’s hard to see why they’d stick with him. While the former Eagles defensive coordinator inherited a weak roster in 2023, he hasn’t done nearly enough to turn things around. Despite adding talent to the team, Arizona is 3-13 and is on a collision course with yet another high draft pick. Kyler Murray will not return in 2026, and the team is staring down yet another rebuild.

John Harbaugh is a good enough coach to rebuild the Cardinals, but the Ravens won’t trade him to Arizona unless he actually wants to go there. Maybe Harbaugh welcomes the opportunity to build a team in his image, but this roster is a long way away from competing for anything.

2. New York Giants

The New York Giants have been one of the most inept franchises in football for years, but they have the pieces to turn it around fast. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart has shown plenty of promise, 2024 first-round pick Malik Nabers looked like a future superstar before his injury, and the roster has talented young players on both sides of the ball.

Make no mistake, this team still has a long way to go before it’s ready to compete for a title. However, the foundation for success is in place, and the organization just needs someone competent to build the rest of the house. John Harbaugh could be that someone, and the Ravens could probably get a good return for the head coach.

1. Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons should have been a lot better than they were in 2025. The team has one of the best defenses in football, an above-average offensive line, and one of the game’s better young receivers in former top-10 pick Drake London. Even with second-year quarterback Michael Penix struggling and eventually tearing his ACL, a decent coach would have found a way to win this weak division.

Unfortunately, Raheem Morris couldn’t get the job done, and the Falcons spent the back half of the season out of playoff contention. While the team doesn’t have a clear answer at quarterback, a coach like John Harbaugh could get this team into the playoffs as soon as next year.
