Entering Camp, Ranking All 32 NFL Head Coaches: 10 to 1

July 17, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Rounding out our power rankings for all 32 NFL head coaches going into training camp, we’ve arrived at the top of the mountain. The best of the best. The leaders who have done it before and want to do it again. Most importantly, each one here in this upper echelon of talent can get there. It’s only a matter of how the season plays out.

Pre-Camp, Ranking Nos. 10-1 NFL Coaches—Who’s Surging

10. Jim Harbaugh (Los Angeles Chargers)

“Who’s got it better than us?” Harbaugh has been a winner at every level. His hand in the Chargers’ style of play, attitude, and confidence was immediately felt after an 11-6 season that overachieved expectations. As personnel grow and adjust to the liking of their head coach, L.A. will only improve. The Chiefs are facing trouble, and that trouble wears the same pair of khaki pants day in and day out.

9. Dan Quinn (Washington Commanders)

The greatest part of Dan Quinn taking the Commanders’ coaching job a year ago is that he gets to make the Dallas Cowboys look foolish on a bi-yearly basis. Surely, Quinn’s trajectory was lifted by the stellar play of rookie phenom Jayden Daniels. Then again, the Josh Harris ownership group trusted staff enough to piece together a laundry list of all Quinn’s former players, making up for one of the most self-assured, scrappy teams the NFC had in store. If the Commanders see less success in 2025, Quinn’s still proven himself as the man for the job.

8. Matt LaFleur (Green Bay Packers)

LaFleur isn’t often mentioned besides the league’s best, but he should be. Ever since coming on as Green Bay’s head coach, he’s been a revelation for consistency. Coxing an additional 2 MVPs out of his late, curmudgeon quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, he’s found stability in a young squad that, while still finding its footing, has put up tremendous battles in recent years. When the iron’s hot, don’t take the Packers for amateurs. They’ll be ready.

7. Sean McDermott (Buffalo Bills)

When staring at the top of the mountain year after year, only to find yourself rolling back down it, criticisms come easily. However, Sean McDermott is the coach made for Buffalo. He’s shown his capabilities before, and when that fateful postseason comes, where Patrick Mahomes finally falls, McDermott’s boys might just be the ones who did it. Either that, or they beat the other guys responsible. More likely, the latter.

6. Dan Campbell (Detroit Lions)

The Lions will be put to the test this season. They’ve lost their offensive coordinator, their defensive coordinator, and a few well-regarded players in-house. But what the franchise has that many others lack is a true-born leader of men. Long gone are the days we laughed at Campbell’s “biting kneecaps” sentiment. Now, Ford Field is a terrordome for all would-be challengers. The team and their fans alike treat each game as a match between gladiators, hungry for the slaughter. Be wary; Detroit could make a run that most counted them out for.

5. John Harbaugh (Baltimore Ravens)

Going into his 18th season, John Harbaugh plays the long game. He knows how difficult it is to reach the pinnacle; he’s done it before. This season, he’s trying to do it with his two-time MVP quarterback, Lamar Jackson, perhaps one of the most unique talents the league has ever seen. The stage is set, the same as it’s been since Jackson’s ascent into stardom. The best possibility Harbaugh can be gifted is a new path the Ravens haven’t explored. Hopefully, one that doesn’t involve the Kansas City Chiefs.

4. Kyle Shanahan (San Francisco 49ers)

The career of Kyle Shanahan has been a fascinating one. From his rapid rise as an OC for the Atlanta Falcons to being a part of that organization’s historic choke, all before his time in San Francisco. Since repping that red and gold, Shanahan has had bountiful seasons, and he’s had meager ones. But the thing about a disappointing run like last year is that his teams always seem to bounce back. With the league’s weakest schedule, the 49ers are looking up, even if they were gutted this offseason.

3. Nick Sirianni (Philadelphia Eagles)

Coming off a Super Bowl win that reset opposing front offices’ way of operation, head coach Nick Sirianni finally got all that he could ever ask for. Undoubtedly, there will be critics who deface Sirianni’s value, what with G.M. Howie Roseman now resembling Michael Corleone in The Godfather II—but to that, you’ll have to say it from the sidelines. In that case, we’re sure the Birds head coach will have a few choice words in return.

2. Sean McVay (Los Angeles Rams)

One of the greatest moves Stan Kroenke ever made was hiring thirty-year-old Sean McVay to be the head coach of the Los Angeles Rams. Entering his 9th season, McVay has done in the last two years what no one thought possible. Working alongside G.M. Les Snead, the pair has performed the quickest turnaround for an organization in need of a dire rebuild. In 2022, less than a year from winning the Lombardi trophy, L.A. hit a low point. Now, after buying low on late-round draft talent, the Rams look as competitive as any other team in the NFL.

1. Andy Reid (Kansas City Chiefs)

Unless some unpredictable error or tragedy strikes, Andy Reid will remain the best head coach until he retires. He has gotten his Chiefs to 5 of the last 6 Super Bowls, winning 3 rings in his time. Constantly, Reid finds ways to reinvent his offenses and properly lean on his defenses when necessary. He is a master of his craft, and if his latest championship appearance spooked you, try and remember how the group reacted after their first devastating loss against Tom Brady and the Bucs. They went on to win back-to-back Lombardi trophies.
