BALTIMORE — The Baltimore Police Department has released body-worn camera footage from a police-involved shooting that took place on Jan. 19 in Bolton Hill.
On that day, officers responded to multiple calls for service, including a welfare check, a disorderly person, and a report of an armed individual.
According to police, when officers arrived, they found several residents outside the apartment complex due to a fire alarm.
Inside, they encountered a person screaming and wielding a large knife.
The officer identified himself as a Baltimore Police officer, prompting the individual to retreat into an apartment. Officers noticed blood in the hallway and attempted to enter the apartment.
Additional officers arrived and tried to de-escalate the situation by communicating through the door, instructing the individual to exit and drop the knife.
Police say the individual emerged holding a knife and an electrical stun stick, refusing to comply with commands. Officers deployed tasers, but they were ineffective. Subsequently, Officer Kevin Wilson, a three-year veteran, discharged his service weapon, striking the individual.
Despite being shot, the individual continued to resist, and officers struggled to secure the knife.
Police say officers persisted with verbal commands and de-escalation techniques. Eventually, the individual dropped the weapons and was taken into custody. She was transported to a hospital with two gunshot wounds.
The individual has been identified as 48-year-old Autumn Elizabeth Denny, who now faces assault and weapons charges.
The Special Investigations Response Team is investigating the incident.
