Lamar Jackson named AFC Offensive Player of the Week

No surprise here, he was the clear and obvious choice.

After a sensational passing performance in the Baltimore Ravens’ come from behind victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Monday Night Football where broke franchise and league records, Lamar Jackson was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week.

Jackson recovered from a shaky first half and exploded in the second to force overtime and ultimately rally his team to victory on the strength of his arm, not his legs. A week after throwing for 300-plus yards for the second time in his career, he eclipsed that total in the second half alone on his way to finishing with a career-high and franchise-record total of 442. The previous record was set in the organization’s inaugural 1996 season by Vinny Testaverde with 429 yards.

Of the 4,017 games in which at least 40 pass attempts were thrown by one quarterback, Jackson’s completion percentage of 86 was the highest in league history. He also became the first player in NFL history with 400 passing yards and at least an 85% completion percentage in a game, as well as the first to finish a game with 400 yards passing, four touchdown passes, no interceptions, and at least 50 yards rushing in a single game.

While this was the first time of the 2021 season, it marks the eighth time that Jackson has earned the honor in his career and completes the hat trick for the Ravens in terms of weekly awards. Rookie outside linebacker Odafe Oweh was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week after he forced and recovered a late fumble in the team’s Week 2 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. All-Pro kicker Justin Tucker set a new NFL record with his game-winning 66-yard field goal in a Week 3 against the Detroit Lions.
