The Baltimore Ravens saw the long-awaited return of quarterback Lamar Jackson on Saturday, as he was back on the field after missing the first eight practices of 2021 training camp. It’s important for him to get all of the reps he can so that he can catch up with the rest of the team, but despite the missed time, the quarterback looked good in his return.
By my count, Lamar Jackson was 11-of-19 on seven-on-seven and team drills.
Jackson was more accurate than numbers indicate. There were 4 dropped passes.
Not surprisingly, Jackson’s reps were limited in first practice back.

Ravens wrapping up practice. Jackson looked fine. Mostly threw short stuff, didn’t push ball downfield too much. But most of his throws were on point and he was moving around well.

James Proche went up against Chuck Clark in individual drills and caught a 10 yard TD.
Keith Williams walked straight over to Proche and was still critiquing and offering advice on his release.

Play of day at Ravens camp was an incompletion.
In first practice back, Jackson ran to his left and uncorked a nice throw deep to left sideline where the ball bounced off the hands of a closely covered Mark Andrews.
He received a congratulatory slap on chest from John Harbaugh.

Odafe Oweh with a “sack” in 11s. Next play, Mark Andrews with a good catch near the goal line and is stripped. Oweh recovered the fumble.
He’s been everywhere today.— Kyle P Barber (@KylePBarber) August 7, 2021
From Ravens camp:
1. Lamar Jackson “hit pretty hard” with symptoms per Harbaugh but looked like himself.
2. Impressed with Oweh. Bullish on pass rush with Houston, Campbell. Can be schemed up.
3. Marlon Humphrey seems like coach’s dream. Locked-in on every practice snap.

Lamar Jackson’s return has been highlighted by….. Wink’s defense blowing past blockers for pressures.
Odafe Oweh, Aaron Adeoye, and Chris Smith all with multiple pressures.

Chris Westry has been denying nearly every pass thrown his way in 11s and following it up by mimicking the refs calling it an incompletion.

Marquise Brown did a lot of conditioning work and movement on an adjacent field. He was moving around well. First time we’ve seen him since he exited last Thursday’s practice with hamstring injury.

Aside from Jackson, other standouts included James Proche, Justin Madubuike, Odafe Oweh, and Chris Westry. With the preseason now one week away, coaches could be beginning to get a feel for what their final roster could look like. However, the preseason is a huge opportunity for players to earn a roster spot, so these practices will go a long way in terms of earning a positive reputation before the exhibition games begin.
