Maryland motorists can expect to pay more to renew their vehicle registrations after a fee increase takes effect on Tuesday.
The fee hike follows a sharper annual increase last July, which raised renewal costs by almost 80%.
This year’s increase is slightly less, raising the one-year renewal cost by $10 for Class A passenger cars under 3,500 pounds. Registration renewal for vehicles with a shipping weight of over 3,700 pounds will cost $191.50, or $30 more than a current one-year registration. For vehicles in between those two weight classes, the increase is only $5. Motorcycle registrations will increase by $10.
The full list of new registration fees is available on the Motor Vehicle Administration’s website.
In addition to the increased registration fees, the cost of a certificate of title will double, from $100 to $200. The excise tax on most auto purchases will increase from 6% to 6.5% of the vehicle’s fair market value.
