Despite signing a new three-year deal last offseason, one NFL surprise trade involving wide receiver Curtis Samuel could happen. According to a source, one report believes the Bills would be willing to move on from the pass-catcher since he’s coming off one of the most disappointing campaigns in his career. Originally selected in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the former Ohio State product began his career with the Carolina Panthers, hoping to carve out a full-time role, and had his moments during that tenure before joining the Washington Commanders. Since Washington was heading in another direction with a rebuild, Samuel became a free agent despite putting up 62 receptions for 613 yards and four touchdowns.
The wide receiver did earn his new deal because of that performance in Washington, but he hasn’t been able to live up to those expectations. It wouldn’t make sense to keep a weapon that the Bills are hardly going to use, especially since he’s getting paid $24 million in those three years. Samuel might not earn the greatest deal in the next contract that he may get from a team if he becomes a free agent. With the Bills having Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Joshua Palmer and Elijah Moore, Samuel will likely miss the cut, and a trade could happen before the team may consider releasing him to garner some draft capital.

Surprise Curtis Samuel Trade That Could Happen in 2025 – 5 Possible Fits
Potential Destinations
Dallas Cowboys
Despite trading for George Pickens, the Dallas Cowboys still could add another weapon to help Dak Prescott secure his full-time duties. Joe Milton is the latest quarterback in Dallas who may creep up, so the team should put Prescott in the best spot to thrive. Samuel doesn’t need to make an impact on every play, but move the chains, pairing up with Jalen Tolbert in the slot.
New Orleans Saints
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Saints need a miracle in their offense, and even though another wide receiver might not help Tyler Shough or Spencer Rattler, it’s better than nothing. Despite signing Brandin Cooks, he’s way past his prime and can only swing in catches in certain moments. Perhaps, they should bolster the route and add Samuel to the mix while Rashid Shaheed and Chris Olave take care of the deep-threat option.
Los Angeles Chargers
However, the latest Tre Harris’s absence from training camp shouldn’t worry the Chargers, but they must get some other type of veteran wideout to help Justin Herbert. Between Mike Williams and Quentin Johnston, Herbert might not be able to rely on these two weapons and may thrive throwing it in short slants. This means Samuel pairing with 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey could make sense in this situation, while the tight end department gets involved in the passing game.
Washington Commanders
Why not? The Washington Commanders lost Noah Brown during workouts, and Deebo Samuel hasn’t been looking like the greatest during camp. Terry McLaurin is still at a standstill in contract negotiations, so they need some type of security in their wide receiving corps, and Samuel might be the temporary solution for a possible reunion.
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens don’t need another offensive weapon this season, but when you have a veteran like DeAndre Hopkins on a one-year deal, he might not last long on this roster. He’s aging, so they need a long-term receiver, and the Ravens’ coaching staff could bring out the best in Samuel. He won’t take over Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman’s starting duties, but could be a sufficient WR3 for the longevity of this offense.
