Ravens 2025 Training Camp: 5 Storylines to monitor

The Ravens enter with the majority of their roster intact. But that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to watch for as training camp begins.

The 2025 Baltimore Ravens 53-man roster is mostly set as they enter Day 1 of training camp. Nearly all starters returned, a new crop of rookies joined the fray at key spots and the additions helped their depth. It’s a talented roster with few questions. But the questions that are apparent will be notable.

Will David Ojabo Make the 53-Man Roster?

To prove how little drama and mystique surrounds the Ravens’ training camp, one of the biggest questions is whether 2022 second-round pick David Ojabo will make the 53-man roster. The Ravens have their starters in Kyle Van Noy and Odafe Oweh. They have a strong faith in Tavius Robinson, and drafted a top-tier edge rusher in second round of the 2025 NFL Draft in Mike Green. They still have third-round pick of the 2024 NFL Draft Adisa Isaac who isn’t expected to be left of the roster after one injury-addled season. With five outside linebackers already tabbed for the roster, it’s up to Ojabo to demonstrate a significant amount of development and production to crack through.

Who Will Start Beside Roquan Smith?

Last season, Trenton Simpson was expected to make the leap as the Ravens’ No. 2 inside backer beside Smith. But after 13 starts, Simpson was all but benched, playing just 15 defensive snaps in the final four games of the season. The Ravens opted to play Malik Harrison and deploy more defensive back-heavy packages.

In Year 3, Simpson should have the skills and understanding to earn the No. 2 role. But if he hasn’t, the Ravens have the versatile, agile rookie Teddye Buchanan to push for the starting spot.

Do the Ravens Bring in a Veteran Safety?

It feels inevitable the Ravens will bring in a safety. The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec has all but predicted the team will sign someone. Baltimore Positive’s Luke Jones has, too. There’s a fair few talented safeties still on the market who could make an impact on a roster already chock-full of defensive back talent. General Manager Eric DeCosta has a strong affinity for bringing in players in training camp to begin their acclimation period. An addition may be on the horizon.

Who Wins the Kicking Competition?

This is, truly, the biggest roster question for the Ravens. I’m burying the lede with Ojabo and others above. But it’s up to sixth-round pick Tyler Loop and undrafted rookie John Hoyland to earn the starting kicker role with the Ravens and keep the team on track in close games. The competition will be reported on daily at camp and furthermore, their performances in preseason games will be their final exam.

Who Wins the Starting Guard Competition(s)?

Left guard has been a perennial thorn in the Ravens’ offensive line over the past few years. Each time they acquire or develop a starter, they hit the market and land elsewhere. It happened with Ben Powers and Patrick Mekari most recently. Now, it’s up to Andrew Vorhees — and Ben Cleveland, who is subject to at least a three-game suspension for a DUI in February 2025. They’re also hoping Emery Jones Jr. can return from shoulder surgery, but it’s unlikely they’ll be ready for Week 1.
