Kyle Phoenix’s analysis: The Ravens are checking boxes in this draft by hitting on their needs with highly-graded players. Isaac was The Athletic’s Dane Brugler’s No. 7 edge rusher and No. 65 overall prospect.
Isaac brings strong production in double-digit tackles for loss (17) and a hearty 7.5 sacks last season in 13 games. The traits are there for Isaac to become, at minimum, a situational rusher, but with proper nutrition, AFC North weight training and time with Ravens outside linebackers coach Chuck Smith, Isaac could become more.
There won’t be an immediate need for Isaac to be thrown into the fire as they hold depth in Kyle Van Noy, Odafe Oweh, David Ojabo and Tavius Robinson, but he could flash in camp enough to earn some reps.

Heady edge prospect combining traits, tools and motor to create playmaking opportunities. Isaac plays with good recognition and awareness of his surroundings both before and after the snap. His snap quickness combines with active hands/feet to help him work his way around blocks at a solid clip. He’s primarily an outside rusher with a decent inside move, but he needs to do a better job of developing counters and learning to work back under at the top of the rush to keep from being redirected. The anchor strength needs improvement to become a more consistent edge setter and rush finisher, but his production, length and motor could eventually earn him a starting job as a 3-4 rush linebacker.

SUMMARY: A two-year starter at Penn State, Isaac lined up as an edge rusher (two- and three-point stances) in former defensive coordinator Manny Diaz’s 4-3 base scheme. His tape and production improved each season in State College and culminated with him leading the Nittany Lions in both tackles for loss (16) and sacks (7.5) as a senior (accounted for 27.0 tackles for loss over 26 games the last two seasons). With his package of traits, Isaac’s athletic twitch as a pass rusher and promising point-of-attack skills in the run game stand out on tape. However, his inefficiency at contact and freelancing tendencies are a few of several areas that remain a work in progress with his game. Overall, Isaac needs to mature his approach to be more than a flash player, but with his length, energy and athletic tools, h e can become an impactful edge presence for a defensive coordinator who continues to unlock his potential. Though he projects best standing up in a 3-4, he has something to offer any NFL scheme as a role player with starting upside (similar in ways to the Philadelphia Eagles’ Josh Sweat).
