The Baltimore Ravens feel secure with Lamar Jackson as their starting quarterback headed into the 2021 season. Now, the organization’s fans know who his back-up will be to start the year.
That’s because the Ravens will waive the third quarterback on their depth chart, Trace McSorley, on Tuesday, according to a latest report.
ESPN’s Jamison Hensley revealed just before the NFL’s final cut deadline that Baltimore will waive the third-year quarterback. The back-up job will then land with mobile, 23-year-old Tyler Huntley, at least for now.
The Ravens have already expressed interest in holding onto McSorley and adding him to the practice squad. The 26-year-old will have to go unclaimed on waivers for the next 24 hours for that to be possible.

McSorley has spent his entire NFL career with the Ravens after Baltimore selected him in the sixth-round of the 2019 draft out of Penn State. He played in just one game during garbage time in his rookie year, but was called upon twice during the 2020 season.
The Ravens plugged McSorley into two different games last year as they battled issues with COVID-19 and injuries to their top two quarterbacks. The former Penn State star ran the offense as intended, but struggled in the limited time he saw in two games. He ended the year going 3-for-10 with 90 yards and a 70-yard touchdown pass to Marquise Brown.
McSorley once was one of the most reliable quarterbacks in the Big Ten with Penn State, but his career hasn’t quite panned out in the NFL. If he remains with the Ravens, his ceiling will be limited, but he will stay with coaches who know his skillset.
Baltimore will proceed forward with just two quarterbacks on the roster in Jackson and Huntley. Time will tell if John Harbaugh feels the need to add another signal caller at some point during the season.
