After repairing the defensive line this offseason, the Buffalo Bills’ defensive tackle, DeWayne Carter, could be a trade candidate this offseason. According to a report, Carter is finding himself deep down the depth chart despite the chances of the team releasing Larry Ogunjobi before the 2025 regular season. Originally selected as a third-round pick, the former Duke product was hoping to carve out a role in the Bills’ defense, but it doesn’t look like that’s possible since other rookie defensive tackles, TJ Sanders and Deone Walker, may emerge as the top starters for the unit. Since the Bills are at a logjam in that entire room, they could trade him away for at least a late-round draft pick.
However, it’s hard to imagine that the Bills would move on from a former rookie so soon, as it’s very unusual. Unless you’re the Carolina Panthers and sent Jonathan Mingo to the Cowboys after one year, the Bills could keep him on the roster, given that Ogunjobi finds his 53-man roster spot in danger. The team should keep him around for depth, but they could still dangle him on the trade block if there’s a defensive-line-needy team that wants him. Here are four teams that could take a chance on the defensive tackle before the 2025 regular season.

Best Possible Fits
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens have depth in the defensive line between Travis Jones, Nnamdi Madubuike and Broderick Washington, but there’s room for improvement here. They took a chance on Yannick Ngakoue again last year after bringing him back for a few games to increase the production of this line, but it wasn’t enough to keep him a part of the roster. After Michael Pierce’s retirement, the only replacement the Ravens got was veteran John Jenkins, and with that, they could do better. DeWayne Carter might not start, but he could emerge as a capable lineman to help the defense.
New Orleans Saints
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Saints sent Khalen Saunders in a trade to the Jacksonville Jaguars. While they were able to trade for Davon Goxchaux earlier this offseason, the Saints’ searching for another defensive tackle isn’t the highest priority, but it’s important to fill the depth chart. Carter could be a reliable lineman for that position as a backup in situational moments.
Dallas Cowboys
While the Dallas Cowboys are still dealing with the Micah Parsons contract drama, this shouldn’t stop the team from improving its defensive line. After re-signing Osa Odighizuwa, there’s a clear hole alongside him unless they have faith in Solomon Thomas. Carter might not be any better, but it gives the Cowboys another option here since they love to invest in younger talent anyway.
Carolina Panthers
After improving the offense for the past offseason for quarterback Bryce Young, the Carolina Panthers have finally made room to make several moves on defense. The Panthers got Tershawn Wharton and Bobby Brown as two efficient options for Derrick Brown’s return on the line. However, they did release Jadeveon Clowney and Josey Jewell, so they must continue adding rather than losing guys on defense, and Carter could likely fit the bill here in Carolina.
