The New York Giants might not trade anyone anytime soon, but the Detroit Lions could be in the market for Kayvon Thibodeaux during the 2025 campaign. According to Bleacher Report, the source names the Lions a fit for the linebacker, as he could be on the move. Originally selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Oregon product is slated to be a free agent in 2027, and, being that he’s fighting for his starting job between Brian Burns and 2025 first-round pick Abdul Carter, the Giants might be open to trading him. If New York isn’t a serious contender this season, which can go either way, then it might be Thibodeaux that is on the move for at least a future second-round pick.
Could Burns be the one who might be on the trade block? It’s all speculation at this point, but Thibodeaux brings something better in return since he’s younger. It’s easy to see why he could be a future Lion, but since the team has one of the deepest linebacker groups, there’s a low chance that they may target Thibodeaux. Unless an injury were to happen to Alex Anzalone, Jack Campbell and Derrick Barnes, nobody should expect a young linebacker like Thibodeaux to join the Lions.
However, it doesn’t mean the trade won’t happen at all. Thibodeaux has a chance here to intrigue a market throughout the 2025 regular season, so this is something everyone should keep an eye on as the year progresses.

Report: Lions Urged to Target Potential Trade Candidate Kayvon Thibodeaux – 3 Other Suitors
Best Fits
New Orleans Saints
After losing Willie Gay this offseason, the New Orleans Saints have yet to find a replacement that can match the energy of Pete Werner and DeMario Davis. The offense looks like it’s coming together for Spencer Rattler and the receiver core group, but if they can’t put things in order on the defense, they won’t be able to win all of the ball games. It’s a work in progress, and luckily, they have Chase Young coming back.
However, Thibodeaux could easily bolster this defense on day one.
Baltimore Ravens
Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens have lost a lot of hidden talent over the past two years, from Geno Stone, Jadeveon Clowney and Malik Harrison. The good news is that the Ravens have depth between David Ojabo and Odafe Oweh. However, both of them are in their contract years, so it’s a toss-up for what this means as far as the future for this linebacker group. Kyle Van Noy is aging as well, so they must bring in someone new eventually.
Baltimore might not have the financial means for Thibodeaux on a contract extension, but they could trade for him for at least a year, where the Ravens can lean on him until their rookies can step up.
Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers lost significant talent this past offseason with the release of Josey Jewell and Jadeveon Clowney. The team brought in some defensive line talent with Tershawn Wharton and Bobby Brown, but they must improve the linebacker group. Christian Rozeboom could keep this unit alive, but they need the depth in the worst way possible.
