Due to day three of this past NFL Draft, 49ers running back Isaac Guerendo could be available for a trade. According to a source, they believe the San Francisco 49ers may trade Guerendo since they’ve got plenty of running backs during the late rounds of the draft. It’s not possible for the 49ers to release the running back, as it’s very unreasonable to give up on him so fast in just one season. However, there’s the possibility the 49ers may make Guerendo available after having one of the worst 2024 campaigns.
San Francisco has been busy this offseason rebuilding their entire roster since trading wide receiver Deebo Samuel and almost sending Brandon Aiyuk to a new team. The team has yet to give quarterback Brock Purdy a massive deal, but the team could be moving in a different direction when it comes to the backfield room. Originally selected in the fourth round, the former Wisconsin and Louisville product was hoping to add value behind starter Christian McCaffrey and former 49er Jordan Mason before sustaining their injuries last season. With Mason gone to the Minnesota Vikings, there was some hope that Guerendo could be the backup behind McCaffrey, who is the obvious bell-cow running back, but it doesn’t look like that will happen.
After drafting Oregon’s Jordan James in the fifth round and UDFA Corey Kiner, Guerendo has some competition. It doesn’t help that Guerendo couldn’t stay healthy for his first training camp, and that came to bite him near the end of his 2024 campaign. If head coach Kyle Shanahan doesn’t feel Guerendo is in the right place, these three teams could take a chance on him.

RUMOR: 49ers 2024 Draft Pick Isaac Guerendo On Trade Block – 3 Possible Next Teams
Potential Destinations
Dallas Cowboys
There’s only a glimmer of hope in the Dallas Cowboys’ backfield room this upcoming 2025 regular season. Despite signing Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams, many should understand these two are not the long-term running backs for Dallas. They have one of the worst veterans who is past his prime, and an underachieving Williams who hasn’t proven he could be their starter. However, there have been a lot of positive conversations surrounding 2025 draft pick Jaydon Blue, as many believe he may be the future of this run game.
After trading for George Pickens, the Cowboys are heading in the right direction, but they may have some inconsistency issues in the backfield. You can’t rotate around each running back, as that could affect the chemistry. Despite that, they should trade for Guerendo to boost the unit and give some relief for Blue.
Los Angeles Chargers
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Chargers should be eyeing an RB3, and that could be Guerendo. There were rumors that the team could trade Najee Harris just months after signing him. While that could be possible if he doesn’t perform up to standards and the team were to want to get some draft capital in return, they might be better off keeping him to see how he excels even as a backup. First-round pick Omarion Hampton will likely be the starter for Justin Herbert’s offense, and they could use Guerendo as a solid depth fill-in rotation to compete with Kimani Vidal.
Baltimore Ravens
However, the Baltimore Ravens could look to add another running back as well. Derrick Henry is not slowing down, but he aging, and that’s something the team has to watch before they give him a new deal since he’s entering the final year of his contract. They have high hopes for Keaton Mitchell, but they could trade for Guerendo to see if Mitchell is capable of being their backup.
