The Baltimore region had downed trees, power lines and other damage, following intense storms on Monday and Tuesday that brought heavy rainfall and strong winds to the area.
A Baltimore County man was taken to an area hospital for undisclosed injuries after a fallen tree crushed his truck Tuesday afternoon on Jarrettsville Pike, just south of Jacksonville Elementary School, at 2:06 p.m., the Jacksonville Volunteer Fire Company confirmed. A section between Merrymans Mill Road and Papermill Road was closed until 5:40 p.m., according to the fire company.
More than 6,000 residents lost power during the storms, according to Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. By noon Wednesday, about 80% of affected customers had their electricity restored, the utility said.
A basement storage room in a Carroll County home caught fire around 4:34 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal. Investigators believe a lightning strike sparked the blaze, which caused an estimated $100,000 in damage to the Sykesville property.”
A home in Middle River also had its basement set ablaze after a possible lightning strike, the Baltimore County Fire Department announced Tuesday evening.
More thunderstorms are expected in the region Wednesday afternoon and the National Weather Service issued a flood watch starting at 2 p.m. going until midnight.
