Which current Raven could have a post-playing career with the organization?

Who could stick on after their career as a player?

Many players stick in the NFL once their career as a player is over. The NFL media space is littered with former players blasting out their opinions over networks and social media. The coaching space is also filled with former players. There are 10 head coaches in the NFL who were former NFL players in some capacity, not to mention the countless scouts, position coaches, assistant coaches, and other positions filled.

As for the Baltimore Ravens, there are plenty of examples. Zach Orr is the most notable right now as the defensive coordinator, but there are others as well. Tony Jefferson was a scout before returning to the field of play and Sam Koch was a punting coach before being let go recently. Former safety Rod Woodson is in the media scene with Baltimore, the current color analyst for the local radio station during games.

Today’s question of the day is:

Which current Ravens could have a post-playing career with the organization?

My Answer: Patrick Ricard

There are so many good personalities on the Ravens. Lamar Jackson, Marlon Humphrey, Kyle Hamilton, Ronnie Stanley, Tyler Linderbaum, and many others. Many of them possess the personality to excel as media members in the future. But this is a hard decision. A lot of guys have other interests they want to explore. Humphrey’s infectious energy would be great as a coach, but he has so many outside things he’s talked about doing. Kyle Van Noy is an extremely smart player, but he has ties to so many organizations. Linderbaum would be great as a smaller offensive lineman who relies a ton on technique.

I have zero knowledge of whether or not Ricard is interested in coaching or not. I’m sure he has a ton of other things he’d like to explore after the fact. But the fact is, the fullback position is a dying art in the NFL. The Ravens are one of the few teams that have kept it alive. Similar to when Sam Koch was made a coach for such a speciality position as punting when Jordan Stout came on, I could see the Ravens asking Ricard to coach for even just two or three years to help find a new fullback once he retires.

Ricard might be too much of a unicorn to help. How do you teach guys how to be a 300lb fullback converted from a defensive tackle and move the way he does? You don’t, but he could allow the Ravens to ease a transition from one fullback to the next. This is a hard one to answer. I could also see former Ravens Chuck Clark and Brandon Williams coming back to coach eventually.

Who’s your best bet to become a coach when it’s all said and done? Answer below.
