We have eight show days before the start of the 2021 #NFL season, so we’re breaking down and predicting how each division will finish — first up, the #NFCEast:#dallascowboys#WFT #Eagles#NYGiants pic.twitter.com/s2CgGsgodb

Washington Football Team won the NFC East preseason. It had the only win.

I know it’s preseason but NFC East finished 1-11-1. pic.twitter.com/NKMFyF29eO

The state of the Giants’ fan base this morning seems to be some kind of cross between despair and disgust after last night’s performance.

The coverage of, and attention to preseason football is weird. No one puts this much stock in exhibition games in any other sport.

Anyone know what time the Ravens Preseason Championship Parade is today?

— (@VaHunt21) August 30, 2021

Annual reminder that the 53-man roster Washington forms Tuesday before the 4 p.m. deadline won’t be its “final” roster. It will change, possibly by Wednesday.

Washington is 13th on the waiver priority list.

Washington has released Isaiah Wright per source

Washington has cut LB Joe Walker per source.

— John Keim (@john_keim) August 30, 2021

Cole Luke released, per source.

Washington is waiving Linden Stephens (official tomorrow), per source

— John Keim (@john_keim) August 30, 2021

Washington has waived WR Tony Brown, per source.

— John Keim (@john_keim) August 30, 2021

The Washington Football Team released TE Caleb Wilson, per source.

— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) August 30, 2021

As @BenStandig and @NickiJhabvala have tweeted: Qb Steven Montez has been released. Also OL Jon Toth. Montez was always a longshot. Both can be placed on the PS.

— John Keim (@john_keim) August 30, 2021

Washington has also released RB Jonathan Williams, a source confirmed. (1st by @BenStandig)

— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) August 30, 2021

Confirmed Washington cuts so far:

QB Steven Montez
WR Isaiah Wright
WR Tony Brown
TE Caleb Wilson
RB Jonathan Williams
C Jon Toth
DT Devaroe Lawrence
LB Joe Walker
CB Linden Stephens
S Cole Luke

— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) August 30, 2021

Dustin Hopkins is a career 84% FG kicker. Broken down by field position in his career:
98 % from 20 to 29 yards
92 % from 30 to 39
80 % from 40 to 49
52 % from 50+

— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 30, 2021

Looking at the numbers he’s really only below average from 50+.

— Bobby Forsythe (@B4sythe) August 30, 2021

One interesting name on the waiver wire: LB Evan Weaver. He’s one of 5 players in Cal history to win Pac-10/12 Defensive Player of the Year (Ron Rivera was the first), and in 2018, he and Jordan Kunaszyk, a current WFT LB, combined for 307 tackles.https://t.co/YeaExO5Adp

— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) August 31, 2021

Still shocked no one has picked up BJ Goodson. He’s only 28 years old. He’s certainly not an All Pro LB, but he’s solid against the run. If Phillips is out for the season the #Browns should def sign Goodson. Gimme Goodson over Mack Wilson, Malcolm Smith, or Elijah Lee any day. https://t.co/5Lsv5VLQ6E

— Roberto Shenanigans (@Rob_Shenanigans) August 31, 2021

Someone to take a look at? https://t.co/jTC6WracfD

— KyleSmith4GM (@Smith4Gm) August 31, 2021

Benardrick McKinney was released today. If the Lions want to add a vet, he fits the athletic profile they look for in LBs. He’s a decent LB https://t.co/VzcQit4T1z

— Pierre (@DLFPtweets) August 31, 2021

Two defensive-minded teams have gotten rid of him. Gotta mean something.

— Kennedy Paynter (@Kennedy_Paynter) August 31, 2021

Carson Wentz’s quarantine is the latest illustration of the elevated competitive risks faced this season by teams with unvaccinated QBs, following the situations with Kirk Cousins, Lamar Jackson and Cam Newton. Our story from last week on that…. https://t.co/2bX0dF0JHg https://t.co/VZlpq635wm

— MarkMaske (@MarkMaske) August 30, 2021

That’s up from once every 14 days currently, under the protocols for training camp and the preseason. The NFLPA had sought a return to daily testing for vaccinated players and staffers. Instead, it’s once every 14 days. Unvaccinated players remain subject to daily testing. https://t.co/T3Q5ddCzBR

— MarkMaske (@MarkMaske) August 30, 2021

Vaccinated players are not subject to quarantines as high-risk close contacts under the NFL/NFLPA protocols for the season (same as the current protocols). But they can be subject to daily testing and mask-wearing for at least 5 days if identified as high-risk close contacts.

— MarkMaske (@MarkMaske) August 30, 2021

There’s no game-day locker room access for most media members, under the NFL/NFLPA protocols for the season, as the league previously had told teams. But in-person interviews remain allowed for vaccinated media members in other settings.
