Bengals, Panthers Connected in Possible Blockbuster Trade

June 26, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

The rebuilding Carolina Panthers could continue making moves this offseason and trade for sack leader, Trey Hendrickson, who is still available for a possible trade. David Helman of FOX Sports believes the Panthers could be a possible destination for Hendrickson because they have the financial means to pull off a deal. However, it seems difficult to see why this would happen since the Panthers are nowhere near being contenders, so maybe Hendrickson wouldn’t be too happy landing in Carolina. Despite that, they do need edge-rushing help after they’ve been investing in their defensive line this offseason.

After signing Tershawn Wharton and Bobby Brown to provide some type of stability for Derrick Brown, a trade for Hendrickson would probably mold this team into a championship roster. Even though they signed some big contracts this offseason, like Jaycee Horn and Trevon Moehrig, to salvage the secondary unit, they can’t ignore improving the pass rush since they released Jadeveon Clowney. When the Panthers let go of Brian Burns a few offseasons ago, they were never able to repair that unit back to its old self. Perhaps, the Panthers can kick the tires and find a way to trade for someone like Hendrickson, so that the team can finally have a winning team and put them in the right position for a championship one day.

However, here are four other destinations that might fit better with Hendrickson.

Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson (91), left, and Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Sam Hubbard (94) celebrate a sack in the second quarter during a Week 16 NFL game against the Baltimore Ravens, Sunday, Dec. 26, 2021, at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati.

Potential Next Teams

Los Angeles Chargers

Following a wild-card season under the first year back for Jim Harbaugh in the NFL, the Los Angeles Chargers haven’t done much to change around their defense. Harbaugh wants to win football matchups in the trenches, but since he’s been reluctant to add talent, it might become difficult betting on players like Da’Shawn Hand, Otito Ogbonnia and Bud Dupree. Veteran Khalil Mack and journeyman Teair Tart are most likely the only players that might keep this pass-rushing unit intact, but if they could pull off a trade for Hendrickson, he could change the scenery for Los Angeles.

Washington Commanders

Meanwhile, the Washington Commanders are building a winning culture, but they said they won’t be adding any pass-rushers this offseason despite losing Dante Fowler Jr., who was arguably their best run-stopping defensive guy. Dorance Armstrong and Bobby Wagner will luckily return, but adding talent to give quarterback Jayden Daniels more chances on the field is what the Commanders need. Hendrickson might be Ryan Kerrigan 2.0 or even better to help bolster the defensive line alongside Armstrong.

Baltimore Ravens

Unfortunately, the Baltimore Ravens defense hasn’t been the same since 2023. After losing Malik Harrison this offseason, they are losing key contributors at least once an offseason, when they did lose guys like Patrick Queen and Jadeveon Clowney in the past. Nnamdi Madubuike is most likely the best trenches guy amongst Travis Jones and Broderick Washington, but if they add Hendrickson, this would change everything. The Bengals would never trade him to Baltimore, but it’s hard to ignore the talent he would bring that fits with the Ravens.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have been stacking up on talent defensively ever since they hired new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus. After signing Jack Sanborn and trading for Kenneth Murray Jr., they have some type of life following Demarcus Lawrence’s departure. The hope is that they can extend Micah Parsons, but it would be interesting to see if Dallas could one day get Hendrickson to boost them to a well-rounded defensive line.
