Player Overview

Bralen Trice had a delayed start to his collegiate career due to a redshirt year in 2019 and opting out of playing in 2020 due to COVID. It wasn’t until 2022 when Trice stood out with 12 tackles for loss and a 9 sack season in 13 games. In 2023, he had a slight dip in sacks and tackles for loss (7 sacks, 11.5 tackles for loss), but totaled two passes defended and one forced fumble. Trice earned First Team All-Pac-12 (2023, 2022) and Third Team All-America (2023).

Bralen Trice is an active edge defender with functional strength. He mixes his high motor and mobility with a variety of pass rush moves to stymie pass blockers. His functional strength helps him at the point of attack, setting the edge and outside leverage on run defense. Sometimes, he gets too invested in engaging his blockers to finish the play. He is projected to work best in a 3-4 system and is projected to be a three-down starter.

Strengths

  • Plays with high motor and urgency.
  • Functional strength that translates in holding the point of attack and outside leverage.
  • Has an array of pass rushing moves.
  • Disrupts the run when hitting the gaps.
  • Good strength for his frame.

Weaknesses

  • Slow to shed off blocks during runs.
  • Hip tightness limits his bend and change in direction.
  • Lacks quick twitch.
  • Aiming low leads to missed tackles.
  • Playing too upright leads to being displaced in the run game.
  • Can be inconsistent with his punches.

Let’s See His Work

Two things that stand out about Washington EDGE Bralen Trice (#8): relentlessness and tremendous field awareness.

Interviews

Bralen Trice is a DE prospect in the 2024 draft class. He scored a 7.46 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 458 out of 1798 DE from 1987 to 2024. https://t.co/oC5t6BpN33 pic.twitter.com/lMsZVReroW

How Will He Fit On The Team

Most of the players signed during this year’s free agency are on one year deals. This was intentionally planned to allow drafted players to grow into their roles of being foundational pieces. Regardless of whether he is selected in the Day 2 or even at the beginning of Day 3, Bralen Trice projects to be a starting caliber player that has the traits defensive coaches would love. High motor, active hands, pass rush moves, and able to convert speed into power. He might not have the desired length one would want from the elite caliber of defensive ends, but Trice makes up for it with his aggressive style of play. Trice does not have to be a full-time player Week 1, but he can still be an every game contributor in his rookie season.
