Breaking: Ravens Could Cut Former First Rounder – 5 Possible Destinations

ravens cut odafe oweh

To save the team’s cap space, the Baltimore Ravens could cut former first-rounder Odafe Oweh before the 2025 regular season. According to a report, the Linebacker could be playing his last season with the Ravens, despite leading second in sacks for the team. Originally selected in the 2021 NFL Draft, the former Penn State product had a slow first three seasons with the team before having a 2024 campaign after the team picked up his fifth-year option. Oweh is one of the best pass rushers for the Ravens, an area that the team has been struggling in, but the biggest implication is if he can stay healthy.

The pass rushing unit for the Ravens hasn’t been the same over the past year since they lost Jadeveon Clowney due to salary cap space. It could come down to the same scenario for Oweh, but they may trade him during the season before that happens. However, if he can’t put up the same performance he had this past season, there’s plenty of reason to believe that Baltimore would be willing to move and upgrade its unit. They might have to pinch pennies to make it happen, and that’s what’s going to come down to if anything.

After losing linebacker Malik Harrison as well this offseason, the Ravens have yet to find a capable replacement that fits their bill. These five teams could target Oweh if he becomes available on the market.

Potential Fits

Kansas City Chiefs

After signing his new extension this offseason, linebacker Nick Bolton is still the best in this pass-rushing unit. Even though they had George Karlaftis, Chris Jones and Charles Omenihu in the defensive unit, they still traded for Josh Uche to bring some relief. This means the Chiefs could target another linebacker if Drue Tranquill and Leo Chenal can’t pick up the slack. Oweh won’t single-handedly carry this department, but bring some new life to Kansas City.

Los Angeles Chargers

Despite making it to the wildcard last year, the Los Angeles Chargers still don’t look like a team that wants to win. Head coach Jim Harbaugh wants to succeed in the trenches, but he can’t get that done with Khalil Mack and Tuli Tuipulotu alone in this unit. The team signing Oweh could finally bring some much-needed insurance.

New Orleans Saints

As much as the Saints can’t afford it, they could find a way to fit Oweh’s contract for at least a year. Last season, the Saints had one of the worst defenses, even though they’re bringing back Chase Young. Carl Granderson won’t be able to hold his own, so Oweh could bring some new capabilities to bolster the unit led by Pete Werner and Demario Davis.

Dallas Cowboys

Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys surprised many after finally getting a wide receiver in George Pickens. However, they could use some more work on their defense despite trading for Kenneth Murray Jr. and signing Jack Sanborn this offseason. Even if they extend Micah Parsons, they could use the presence of Oweh as a long-term linebacker, and the Cowboys are the most likely team to trade for him.

Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders are still rebuilding their roster even though they’ve been guided to the NFC Championship Game this year. Frankie Luvu and Bobby Wagner are a powerful duo, but they can’t compensate for what Dominique Hampton may do. Oweh could be the long-term investment for this Washington defense once Wagner retires.
