Broncos’ star linebacker Bradley Chubb was arrested on Tuesday on a failure-to-appear warrant stemming from traffic infractions earlier this year, per court records obtained by Denver insider Mike Klis of 9News.
On May 6, Chubb was charged with misdemeanor driving under restraint and 60-plus days expired license plates. He was set to appear in Arapahoe County court on Aug. 6, but failed to show.
“Mr. Chubb was contacted late this morning for a minor traffic infraction by deputies from our office,” Sgt. Jeff Miller from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said in an e-mail to 9News. “After contacting Mr. Chubb it was discovered that he had a warrant out of Arapahoe County for FTA (Failure to Appear) on traffic offenses and was taken into custody and transported to the Douglas County Detention Center and is currently in the process of posting a small bond.”
The Broncos also released a statement on the issue:
“We are aware of the matter, which was released to an unresolved traffic issue that has now been addressed.”
Chubb was selected with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2018 draft and has developed into a star linebacker for the Broncos franchise. After missing most of the 2019 season with a torn ACL, the former NC State standout returned for a Pro-Bowl year in 2020 — logging 7.5 sacks through 14 games in Denver.
Despite Chubb’s recent legal troubles, head coach Vic Fangio believes his LB will be ready to go for the Broncos’ season-opener against the Giants on Sunday.
