Tuesday night saw the most anticipated matchup of this year’s NBA Summer League so far. The Detroit Pistons faced off against the Houston Rockets — but more importantly, No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham faced off against No. 2 overall pick Jalen Green.
The two rising NBA stars made this matchup all the more interesting by guarding each other on most possessions throughout the game.
And with a spectacular play in the first half, No. 1 got the best of No. 2 yet again.

This rivalry between Cunningham and Green dates all the way back to their high school AAU days and extended throughout their pre-draft careers. Back in May, Green perpetuated that rivalry with an indirect tweet to his future NBA competition.
“I know for a fact if i went to college it woulda been a different talk about who goin number 1,” the 19 year old wrote.
While Green elected to take the new-wave G-League route, Cunningham went with the more traditional path. Through his one-and-done year at Oklahoma State in 2020, the future No. 1 overall selection logged 20.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game on an efficient 43.8% shooting from the field.
While Cunningham may have gotten the best of Green on this play, the two are currently deadlocked at 17 points apiece through three quarters.
The Rockets’ second first-round draft pick Alperen Sengun (No. 16 overall) has chipped in with a solid 15 points and five rebounds.
Houston leads the Pistons 83-71 heading into the fourth.
