Calvin Johnson Reveals The 2 Toughest Cornerbacks He Faced

Calvin Johnson is officially a Pro Football Hall of Famer

The former Detroit Lions wide receiver was officially inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

Johnson terrorized opposing defenses throughout his career. At his peak, he was one of the most-dominant wide receivers in NFL history.

There were a couple of defensive backs that gave Johnson trouble, though. The former Lions wide receiver named the two toughest cornerbacks he ever faced during a recent interview with Barstool Sports’ Pardon My Take.

“I’ll give you two guys. When I first came into the league, nobody liked playing Al Harris,” Johnson said, per 247Sports. “We played him twice a year. When had Roy Williams at the time and he always hated play Al. And I didn’t know nothing about Al until I heard Roy talking about him in the week before we played him. He was like, ‘Man, all he does is put his hands in your face. The referee will let him get away with it.’ I’m thinking, ‘OK, I ain’t gotta worry about that. You’re the No. 1 receiver. You got his ass.’

“Lo and behold, halfway through the game, they switch him over to me and I got a good taste of it. ‘Well if this is how it is, this is the battle I gotta do at the line of scrimmage, this is who I gotta play against twice a year?’ He was the one who I, not modeled my game after, but as far as the aggressiveness that it came with, the fight at the line of scrimmage, it was all tailored after playing against Al Harris because I knew the kind of fight and nastiness I had to come with.”

Johnson then said that Patrick Peterson was the best athlete he’s ever seen at cornerback.

“And after that I have to say Patrick Peterson because he was the best athlete I’ve seen over there as a cornerback. Hands down,” he said.

No one was really able to slow Johnson down, though. He heads to Canton, Ohio as one of the greatest wide receivers in recent NFL history.
