During last week’s win over the San Francisco 49ers, Cardinals running back Chase Edmonds suffered a high-ankle sprain with an expected recovery time of 3-4 weeks.
The Arizona rusher had already been ruled out of this weekend’s matchup against the Carolina Panthers, but now he’s been confirmed out for a longer period of time.
According to reports from NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, the Cardinals have placed Edmonds on the injured reserve. With this designation, the fourth-year running back will miss at least three weeks.
That being said, there’s reportedly optimism that he will return to the field when that time is up.

Throughout this season, the Cardinals’ rushing attack has been led by a healthy balance of Chase Edmonds and James Conner. Edmonds typically serves a bigger role in the receiving game out of the backfield, logging 641 total yards and one touchdown on the season.
But, with Edmonds leaving the game last week, Conner stepped up in every facet of the game. At the end of the contest, Edmonds’ backfield partner had amassed 96 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, and 77 yards and one touchdown through the air.
2020 seventh-round pick Eno Benjamin will step up as the team’s backup rusher in Edmonds’ absence.
