Carmelo Anthony Reacts To Finally Playing With LeBron James

LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony in Game 3 of the Lakers-Blazers NBA Playoffs series.

Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James have joked about playing together for years. It’s finally a reality.

Anthony signed with the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this month to team up with James, his longtime friend. He joins a Lakers team full of veterans ready to win a championship – something Anthony’s never done.

The veteran small forward discussed teaming up with James with reporters on Monday. In doing so, he revealed what went into his free-agency decision.

“The time is now for us to be on the same team,” Anthony said, via Kyle Goon of the Southern California News Group. “It couldn’t have came at a better time.”

Carmelo Anthony also went on to discuss how his lack of championships played a factor in his decision. He clearly believes the Lakers give him the best opportunity to get a ring before he calls it a career.

“This is the one thing I’m missing,” Anthony said of a championship. “This is the one thing that keeps me up at night, that motivates me because I don’t have it.”

The Lakers will have fire power; there’s no doubt about it. But age is a concern, as is team chemistry.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis dealt with a number of injuries down the stretch of the 2020-21 regular season. Is Father Time catching up to James? It looked like it.

James won’t have as much of a workload next season as he did last, though. With Anthony and Russell Westbrook in the fold, the Lakers have other scorers capable of giving James more rest. That could prove essential to the Lakers’ championship aspirations.
