It seems like the New York Jets’ fanbase has given up on Mike White and set its sights on a new backup quarterback: Joe Flacco.
Two weeks ago, White threw for over 400 yards and three touchdowns in his first career NFL start, leading the Jets to a comeback upset of the Cincinnati Bengals. The former fifth-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys got hurt early in last week’s game against Indianapolis, but was able to make the start this afternoon.
It hasn’t gone well. White has thrown four interceptions, and the Jets currently trail the Buffalo Bills 38-10 in the fourth quarter. Two weeks after fans chanted his name at MetLife Stadium, White had to listen to them beg for the veteran Flacco.
The Jets traded for Flacco with rookie quarterback Zach Wilson injured, but he has not appeared in a game for the team yet. Clearly, much of the crowd at today’s game wants to change that.
“We Want Flacco” chants could be heard at MetLife this afternoon.

Mike White hearing the highs and lows of playing in NY. One week he has the city of NY chanting his name and cheering for him, the next week he throws 4 picks and hears “we want flacco” chants

To be honest, the Jets don’t get much out of putting Flacco in the game right now, even if they did surrender a conditional sixth-round pick to the Eagles in order to bring the 36-year-old back to New York.
We’ll see if Flacco gets in this game late. In reality, all today’s performance really does is make it highly unlikely White will continue to start once Wilson is healthy again.
