Cleveland Browns Quarterback Was Released On Monday

The Cleveland Browns are trimming their roster down to the 53-man limit they have to reach by Tuesday. That trimming has led to one Browns quarterback getting released.

According to Browns insider Scott Petrak, the Browns have cut quarterback Kyle Lauletta. Also getting pink slips on Monday were defensive end Curtis Weaver and safety Sheldrick Redwine.

Lauletta was a fourth-round draft pick by the New York Giants in 2018, but struggled to endear himself to the team – on or off the field. Before throwing his first NFL pass, Lauletta was arrested for eluding police and reckless driving in October 2018. His first NFL game – mop-up duty against Washington – he went 0-for-5 with an interception.

The Giants waived Lauletta before the 2019 NFL season. He has not played in an NFL game since and has spent the last two seasons on various practice squads.

With Kyle Lauletta cut, the Browns are officially going into the 2021 season with Baker Mayfield as their starter and veteran Case Keenum as their primary backup. Keenum is nine-year NFL veteran.

The Browns roster is among the best in the league and the team is expected to contend for the Super Bowl this year. But that largely hinges on Baker Mayfield being healthy.

As for Lauletta, his NFL career might be hanging by a thread at this point. He hasn’t played a game since 2018 and hasn’t played especially well with what few snaps he’s had.

Have we seen the last of Kyle Lauletta on an NFL roster?
