North Carolina fans probably didn’t expect to see the No. 8 seed reach the Final Four. Nor did they count on the Tar Heels opposing their arch-nemesis, Duke, in a colossal contest to determine which ACC foe earns a spot in the NCAA championship.
Since North Carolina ended St. Peter’s Cinderella run in the Elite Eight last Sunday, many Tar Heels supporters have likely spent the week trying to get out of plans for this Saturday. That includes country singer Eric Church, who cancelled a sold-out concert in San Antonio to attend the Final Four matchup in New Orleans.
In a statement sent to ticketholders through Ticketmaster, he called Saturday’s showdown “any sports enthusiast’s dream.”
“This is also the most selfish thing I’ve ever asked the Choir to do: to give up your Saturday night plans with us so that I can have this moment with my family and sports community,” Church’s statement said. “However, it’s that same type of passion felt by the people who fill the seats at our concerts that makes us want to be part of a crowd at a game of this significance.”
Suffice it to say, fans were not pleased with Church’s decision.

Some die-hard sports fans may relate to Church prioritizing his beloved team, but his fans might have felt the same excitement about seeing him perform. It’s understandably a tough choice for them to process.
Luckily Church has no concert scheduled Monday, so he’s in the clear if North Carolina beats Duke and makes the championship game.
