The Indianapolis Colts are already off to one of the worst starts, and it’s only the preseason, so this could trigger a trade involving Jonathan Taylor. While it’s not the biggest deal in the world, quarterback Anthony Richardson went down with a huge hit, resulting in a thumb injury. After spending the past two campaigns on the team battling other injuries, it’s just another headache that the Colts can’t afford, so they must start thinking about the future of their roster and what they should prioritize. It’s not over for the team, but if they find themselves in another losing season led by Richardson, they could fire-sell plenty of talent on their offensive roster, including Taylor, who has been one of the best contributors.
Originally selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the former Wisconsin product continues to thrive even though the Colts haven’t been the most reliable team in recent memory. If anything, he always finds a way to give the Colts a fighting chance to push for a possible playoff appearance, so it’s hard to argue against that he deserves a fresh start with a new team. Indianapolis is nowhere near being a contender anytime soon, so these four teams could use his skillset and abilities if they need help during mid 2025 campaign.

Depleting Colts Could Trade Top Weapon Jonathan Taylor – 4 Potential Suitors
Best Fits
Baltimore Ravens
Even though the Baltimore Ravens aren’t in the market for a running back, Derrick Henry is getting older, and the team should be thinking about the future after the 2025 regular season at least. Despite signing a new contract to stay in Baltimore, there’s no guarantee that he will be the same athlete he once was. Keaton Mitchell is showing some flashes in preseason, but the Ravens will need to wait until the regular campaign to decide if he’s the future. They could snag Taylor in a trade to team up with Henry as a ferocious duo.
New Orleans Saints
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Saints will probably have one of the worst offenses, except for the run game, which Alvin Kamara will likely save them in several moments. They can’t afford to use him too much as he’s getting up there in age himself. Taylor could join the Saints if they need one last push for postseason contention, and maybe running the football might be the Saints’ last resort.
Washington Commanders
The Washington Commanders are trying to maximize Jayden Daniels’ contract, but they have a weak point in their offense. It’s hard to imagine that Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler are the future of this run game, even though Daniels has been heavily reliant on passing the football. However, since teams are figuring out his style of play, the Commanders will have no other choice but to lean on Robinson and Ekeler more often. Taylor is the perfect last crown jewel piece to this offense that could put them in the Super Bowl conversation.
Dallas Cowboys
However, the Dallas Cowboys have one of the worst running back units, even though 2025 draft pick Jaydon Blue does show promise. Don’t expect Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders to last more than a campaign in Dallas. Taylor would solve all of the running back issues as a reliable speedster.
