Former LSU head coach Ed Orgeron doesn’t plan on coaching during the 2022 season.
Orgeron was let go from LSU after this season, just two years after leading the school to a National Championship.
He went on the Dan Patrick Show and confirmed that he wants to take the year off before he coaches again.
“I want to take a year off,” Orgeron said. “Think about this: I’ve been going to a university, since I started college, for 42 years. I want to just take one year off. Settle down. Let the dust settle. I have three great sons. In fact, my twins it’s their birthday today. They all want to coach. My oldest son Tyler is 29. We’re trying to get them analyst jobs. Get them in college because they were all going to be with me so there’s a little adjustment there. We got one settled. One is going to take the year off and one is going to try to get in the NFL. I want to spend my time working with them, settle down, and then see what’s available for me next year.”
Orgeron finished his LSU tenure with a 51-20 record. After winning the National Championship in 2020, he led the Tigers to a 5-5 season in 2020 and then a 6-6 season this past year.
That wasn’t good enough for the school leaders so he was dismissed and then Brian Kelly was hired to replace him.
Before Orgeron was with LSU, he coached USC for one year and went 6-2. He also spent three years with Ole Miss and finished with a 10-25 record.
He will be a name thrown around a lot during the next coaching carousel.
