“I’m Looking to be Valued” – Seven-Time Pro Bowler Could Request a Trade

August 13, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After having contract issues last offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers find themselves in the same stalemate as Cameron Heyward could request a trade. According to several reports, Heyward is holding in for a new deal, and reportedly, he may miss the regular season this upcoming campaign due to contract issues if it means triggering the Steelers to offer him a new deal to his standards. Despite receiving a new two-year contract last summer, Heyward is looking for a raise, which is a huge blow for the team that is looking to use some of their salary cap space to either trade or sign a free-agent wide receiver to help quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

The defensive lineman still has two years left in his current contract, but it doesn’t mean he’ll play if he doesn’t get what he demands. After putting on an illustrious campaign, it’s no secret why Heyward wants a new contract, but after noticing that the front office reportedly “giggled” at the idea of giving the lineman more money, it gave motivation for Heyward to put on a promising 2024 regular season performance. Heyward put up eight sacks and 35 solo tackles in one season, so it’s no wonder that he wants a new deal. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the next few days, but after giving TJ Watt a blockbuster, there is no realistic way for the Steelers to rework Heyward’s contract to his wants.

Possible Next Teams

New Orleans Saints

Veteran Cameron Jordan is one of the best defensive linemen on the New Orleans Saints’ defense. Since the team needs to thrive on defense, being that the offense will be rebuilding (hopefully) under the wing of Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler. Bryan Breese has yet to show that he could make an impact, so why not pinch pennies to get Heyward under a contract? The Saints might not have any choice but to take a shot on Heyward to boost their postseason chances and put the team in the best position to win football games.

Washington Commanders

Meanwhile, the Washington Commanders are building an old-school defense that already contains Bobby Wagner and new free agent signee Von Miller. The team is trying to maximize Jayden Daniels’ contract, so they’re getting all of the veterans with experience to give this roster a chance to get closer to a Super Bowl. Despite signing Deatrich Wise Jr. after losing Dante Fowler, the Commanders are better off with Heyward in a possible trade scenario to boost their chances to the ceiling.

Dallas Cowboys

However, the Dallas Cowboys are still struggling in their run defense, and that was shown in their first preseason game. Between Marshawn Kneeland and Solomon Thomas, the Cowboys still need a significant upgrade in the trenches. Micah Parsons has yet to receive an update on a contract, so it feels like a trade is likely. Heyward might have two more seasons in the tank and could be a temporary replacement if the Steelers want to negotiate a deal.

Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers spent their offseason rebuilding the trenches to help Derrick Brown, especially after losing him to a gruesome injury this past year. Bobby Brown and Tershawn Wharton are two powerful additions to the Panthers’ defense, but they need more help in the edge rush. Heyward isn’t a linebacker, but he could help strengthen the defense to their full potential.
