On Sunday night, Jake Paul went toe-to-toe with Tyron Woodley in the ring and emerged victorious via a split decision. Now less than 24 hours later, it appears for the YouTube star is perfectly content riding off into the sunset and ending his career undefeated.
Paul announced on Twitter Monday night that’s he has retired from boxing. We’ve seen this story before, especially in the fighting world. Whether he stays true to his retirement plans remains to be seen. For now, he’s walking away from the sport.
“Updated status: Retired boxer,” Paul said on Twitter Monday night.
You’ll notice Paul didn’t necessarily say he’s retiring from fighting, leading some to speculate if the 24-year-old will enter the MMA world. There have been rumblings surrounding a potential bout between Paul and UFC superstar Conor McGregor.
Could Paul’s latest tweet be a hint he’s leaving boxing for the UFC? It’s plausible.
Updated status:
Retired boxer

Jake Paul, at the very least, is using the same strategy as many fighters before him. Plenty of boxing and MMA stars, including McGregor, have announced sudden retirements only to return to the sport a few months later. It’s a well-used publicity stunt and usually garners plenty of attention.
Perhaps Paul is announcing his retirement from boxing as a way to garner attention before he announces his entrance into the Octagon. That’d certainly make headlines.
Paul is 4-0 in his professional career, having beaten Woodley, Ali Eson Gib, Nate Robinson and Ben Askren. Those who weren’t taking the former YouTube star seriously are now. He’s more than capable of holding his own in the ring, albeit against other non-boxers.
It’s an interesting time for Paul to announce his retirement from the sport. If we had to guess, it’s because he’s going to announce something bigger in coming days. We’ll see.
