The Tampa Bay Buccaneers strengthened their defensive line in this year’s draft, selecting Washington product Joe Tryon with the 32nd overall pick. Tryon is still a month away from making his regular-season debut, but the early reviews are very encouraging.
When asked on Friday what Tryon will bring to Tampa Bay’s defense this season, Jason Pierre-Paul couldn’t stop raving about the rookie pass rusher.
“Joe is going to be amazing,” Pierre-Paul said. “He’s doing stuff that I’m thinking, ‘Man, I wish I would’ve known that when I was a rookie.’ He’s doing amazing stuff out there. Me and [Shaq Barrett] were just talking about him on the sideline while watching him go at it with the tools. I told Shaq, ‘He’s going to be the difference maker for us.’ He’s been moving since day one when he got here. From there to now, he’s been moving tremendously.”
The only thing Pierre-Paul said Tryon needs to work on is staying on his feet. However, that’s an issue that Pierre-Paul claims he had when he was younger too.

Buccaneers star Shaq Barrett has also been really impressed by Tryon’s performance in training camp, comparing him to Denver Broncos pass rusher Bradley Chubb.
Tryon opted out of the 2020 college football season due to COVID-19 concerns. In two seasons at Washington, he had 61 total tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and nine sacks.
We’ll get to see just how “amazing” Tryon is when the Buccaneers take the field against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1.
