The Big Ten has been Ohio State‘s to lose for some time now. Joel Klatt of Fox Sports doesn’t anticipate that will change this upcoming season.
The Buckeyes, Big Ten champions four years in a row, lose plenty of talent from last year’s team. Key offensive players like quarterback Justin Fields and running back Trey Sermon are off to the NFL.
Luckily, Ohio State shouldn’t have any issue reloading on that side of the ball, thanks to its tremendous success in the recruiting game. That’s a big reason why Klatt doesn’t anticipate the Big Ten posing much of a challenge for the Buckeyes later this fall.
Ohio State has distanced itself from the Big Ten on the recruiting front and it should translate to another conference championship by December of this year.

“Yes, absolutely. Ohio State is the class of the Big Ten,” Klatt said, via 247Sports. “And they have been for the last few years by a wide margin. If you look at the composite rankings, just number of stars, star power in terms of recruiting, Ohio State has basically all of the five-star players in the entire Big Ten and they’re concentrated on that roster.
“Obviously they’re gonna have to replace their quarterback but that roster is two-deep at almost every single position with someone who could start anywhere else in the Big Ten. They are loaded. And if they get any sort of quarterback play out of one of these young guys, they’re gonna be the class of the Big Ten.”
On paper, the Buckeyes should breeze to a Big Ten Championship. But football isn’t played on paper.
We have yet to see what the Buckeyes will get from Justin Fields’ successor. Until we do, we can’t make any bold declarations about Ohio State’s 2021 season.
Quarterback play is the lifeforce of college football. The position is still a mystery for the Buckeyes at the moment.
