On Tuesday night, the Kentucky Wildcats basketball program and head coach John Calipari received some good news.
Shaedon Sharpe, the No. 4 recruit in the 2022 cycle, announced that he’s heading to Lexington. Sharpe is UK’s second commitment in the 2022 cycle, joining five-star point guard Skyy Clark.
After the news broke, Wildcats fans were rightly excited about adding a top recruit. ESPN ranks Sharpe as the No. 1 recruit in the nation, which would give Calipari his first No. 1 recruit in nearly a decade – according to ESPN.
The head coach himself was pretty thrilled on Tuesday night. Just over an hour after Sharpe announced the news, Calipari took to Twitter with a simple message.
A winking emoji.

Sharpe explained it was a tough decision, but ultimately Calipari was a major deciding factor for him choosing the Wildcats.
“It was a tough decision, but I felt they had a clear plan for me as I work to play at the highest level,” Sharpe told ESPN’s Jonathan Givony. “Coach Cal took the time to understand who I was as a person and how to get the best out of me. Kentucky felt the most like home to me. I get the sense that I can grow to reach my potential on and off the court at Kentucky given the platform, atmosphere and legacy.”
The talented prospect is the No. 4 overall and No. 2 shooting guard in the 2022 cycle, per the 247Sports composite score.
